LARHONDA'S
COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT
PRIORITIES
Supporting our Military & Veterans
As the daughter of a Vietnam Veteran and POW, I have personally witnessed the immense sacrifices our veterans make to keep us safe. Therefore, it is my utmost priority to ensure they receive the care and support they deserve. If elected, I plan to work tirelessly with Republicans and Democrats to pass comprehensive VA reforms in the state. These reforms will ensure that Tennessee's veterans receive medical care immediately and eliminate the long-standing backlog of VA benefits claims.
Standing up for our Returned Citizens
If given the opportunity to serve, I will offer significant support to individuals seeking change and growth. I am a strong advocate for correctional reform and re-entry. For over 28 years, I have worked to assist individuals who have returned to society after incarceration, as well as those who have struggled with substance abuse and mental health issues. I firmly believe in the power of change and am committed to promoting the development and support of opportunities for people to learn from their past experiences and focus on their future.
Gun Reform
Addressing Mental Health
I strongly believe that protecting the rights of citizens is of utmost importance. I am committed to implementing policies supported by solid evidence and data-driven practices to achieve this. While I support the 2nd Amendment and am a gun owner myself, I do not believe in denying others the opportunity to own a gun. However, it is equally important to have mechanisms to ensure that only those legally qualified to own a gun can purchase one. Those who do not meet the necessary qualifications must not be allowed to buy a gun to maintain the safety of both themselves and the community. With this approach, we can ensure that every member of our society is protected and that their fundamental rights are upheld.
I have been committed to making a difference in people's lives throughout my career. I have worked with young men at My Friend's House, developed policies and training programs to reduce recidivism, and supported the mental health community through 988 and Family Children Services. However, to tackle the challenges of mental health and the opioid crisis, we need to increase funding to ensure that essential services are readily available to those who need them the most. I am passionate about driving change and believe that with your support, we can make a real impact on the lives of those struggling with mental health and addiction. Together, let us act and make a difference in our communities.
Advocating for Women
LGBTQ+ Equality
As a woman, I strongly believe in the importance of defending a woman's right to choose. Making informed choices about one's body is a fundamental right that must be protected. We must not allow anyone to restrict or take away this right. Women have the right to control their bodies and must be trusted to make the best decisions for themselves. Our responsibility is to support them in this pursuit of autonomy and empowerment.
I am a proud member and advocate of the LGBTQ+ community. I believe in promoting inclusivity and equality in all communities. No one should fear expressing their true selves and who they love. My objective is to eliminate the unwarranted stigmas and prejudices surrounding this community and allow them to live as equal and respected members of society.
Working with All Political Parties
Change is the main ingredient in growth, and I hope to have the opportunity to make impactful changes that aid in the development of our community. As someone who has lived in various states, I have seen firsthand the incredible impact of our democratic values and the critical need to preserve them. Our collective efforts can make a real difference in championing a brighter future for District 65 and Tennessee. Let us stand together to ensure our voices and values are heard.
